The Auto Cluster Development and Research Institute is an initiative of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA) supported by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and the Government of Maharashtra. It was set up under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (IIUS) of the Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

The prime objective of the Auto Cluster is to Support MSMEs in meeting their developmental requirements of Product Development, Quality, Reliability, and Cost competitiveness per OEM expectations. Auto Cluster is a first-of-its-kind industrial cluster established in Chinchwad in 2006-07 and has served more than 2000 MSMEs in and around Pune.
Auto Cluster, Pune, is committed to enhancing the global competitiveness of the auto industry by working together with the industry and promoting innovations, appropriate technologies, and collective learning.
Auto Cluster is equipped with the latest technologies, including prototyping and 3D printing, enabling quick plastic component printing for testing. It is also a NABL-accredited Rubber and Polymer Laboratory used by many automobile and engineering manufacturing companies and their Tier 1 and Tier 2 vendors to test rubber component requirements.
Under the Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City development initiative to support startups in the PCMC area, PC Smart City, Auto Cluster, and MCCIA have established the Pimpri Chinchwad Startup Incubator Centre in the Auto Cluster Premises.
As part of the skill development activities, Auto Cluster has signed MoUs with multiple prominent regional educational institutions to provide students with knowledge of the best industry practices and methods, aided by industry experts.
